For high blood pressure:
Adults are usually prescribed between 2.5-10 milligrams once daily, where as children’s dosages are determined on an individual basis by a physician.
For angina (chest pain):
On average, adults are usually prescribed between 5-10 milligrams once daily, where as a child’s dosage is best determined by their physician.

I forgot to take my Norvasc; what do I do? If you end up missing a dose, don’t fret, just take it as soon as you remember.
But what if I don’t remember until it’s time to take my next dose? Well if you don’t remember until it’s time for you next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. REMEMBER NEVER DOUBLE DOSE!
What happens if I or someone I know overdoses? In the occurrence of an overdose, seek medical attention immediately. If the person has collapsed or stopped breathing, call you local medical emergency services (Dial 911).
Norvasc overdose symptoms include:
- Rapid Heartbeat
- Fainting
- Dizziness
What are some of the side effects I might experience?
Although Norvasc side effects are uncommon, some patients may experience one or more of the following from time to time:
- Headache
- Flushing (feeling of warmth)
- Upset Stomach
- Dizziness or Lightheadedness
- Fatigue
- Heartburn
- Rapid Heartbeat
- Muscle Cramps
- Decreased Sexual Ability
- Nosebleed
PLEASE NOTE: If the above side effects are persistent or are bothersome, contact your doctor.
CIf you experience any of the following side effects, we recommend you contact your doctor immediately:
- Rash
- Fainting
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
- Swelling of the face, eyes, lips, tongue, arms or legs
- Yellowing of the skin or eyes
PLEASE NOTE: If you are taking any other prescription medication, especially fentanyl (Duragesic), which is used for high blood pressure, let your doctor know. Also inform him/her if you are taking any other prescription, non-prescription medication or vitamins. This is for your safety, so your physician can look out for possible drug interactions.
What are some of the warnings or precautions?
Allergies and Medical Conditions - Inform your doctor if you have ever experienced any side effects or possible allergic reactions to Norvasc. Also let your physician and pharmacist know if you have any allergies and how you have reacted to these in the past. If you suffer or have suffered from congestive heart failure, low blood pressure or liver disease, tell your physician (make them aware of any and all medical conditions you have).
Seniors and Children - From time to time, physicians have found seniors sensitive to the effects of Norvasc, and this may increase the possibility of Norvasc side effects. As for the side effects children taking Norvasc may experience, studies have not yet been conducted, so the results are inconclusive.
Pregnancy - Although studies of pregnant woman taking Norvasc are yet to be conducted, extensive research has been done on pregnant animals, These studies have shown high doses of Norvasc caused negative side effects, including fetal death in some cases. It is also not known how Norvasc affects mothers, who are breast feeding, although research has shown that Norvasc to be passed through breast milk to the infant. If your are pregnant or become pregnant while taking Norvasc, inform your doctor immediately.
PLEASE NOTE: Avoid storing Norvasc in such places as the bathroom or kitchen. Norvasc should always be stored in a dry place at room temperature and out of the reach of children. Also remember to properly dispose of drugs that have expired or Norvasc that is no longer being taken.
